Bog Cotton Flower in the Wind Photograph Limited Edition on Canvas, ready to hang

I took this photograph down the road from the studio one Summers day. It was one of those rare Summers days that we actually had a blue sky and hardly any clouds!

My mother always used to remind me that if many Bog Cottons were out in early Summer it was a sign that we'd have a great Summer!

I think in Ireland people invent these sayings to fool themselves (and anyone foolish enough to listen) into believing that This is going to be the year we will have a great Summer! It never happens! We may get a spell of one week and then that's it!

I've been taking photographs since I was a young teenager. My first camera was a Kodak box camera given to me by my Aunt Deirdre. She herself took loads of photos of us as children whenever she visited. I progressed onto a Pentax ME film camera and now I use a Pentax DLSR.

My father also took photographs when he was a young man and we have many of his early Black and White photographs from the 50's.

In Canada my uncle Declan introduced me to his darkroom where he printed his photographs. So as we'd say here in Conamara, 'Tá sé san fhuil!' Gaelic for 'It's in the blood!'

I know my family were never too enthusiastic about looking at my photographs as they were mostly about either our cows in the fields or the surrounding landscape of Conamara. They were always expecting photographs of family and friends.

Landscape is my favourite type of photography and I also have a love of photographing underwater in the Atlantic Ocean. I am fortunate to live by the Ocean and am surrounded by mountains and lakes.

Every day I see at least one photograph in my eye when I go out riding on my motorbike or bicycle.

I paint as well and the two go hand in hand as the photographs sometimes resemble paintings!
