Galway hooker, Sailing Vessel
Hooker is the English word for the Gaelic 'Húcéire', a tradition sailing vessel of the 1800's. These sailing
vessels were used for trade along Ireland's coast and down as far as Africa.
Today they are used for Summer Racing Festivals around Ireland.
I painted this Galway Hooker shortly after watching a Hooker race during the St. Mac Dara's Festival here in Carna, Connemara, Co. Galway.
It's an annual event and happens every July 16.
I love texture on a painting and this has so much, it looks like it is going to sail right out of the canvas!
